Semi-custom cakes live squarely in my wheelhouse: buttercream texture, hand-piped florals, painterly details, and modern or vintage-inspired finishes. If that's the style you're drawn to, you're in exactly the right place.

This option is best for celebrations where you want something elevated and one-of-a-kind but don't need a full design consultation birthdays, showers, anniversaries, milestones, or a smaller pickup wedding or cutting cake.

How it works:

  • Choose your cake size, flavor, color palette, and overall vibe

  • Share a few inspiration photos — my past work or other designs you love — so I understand the direction

  • I design an original cake inspired by those cues, built in my own style and techniques

A quick note on fit: because every semi-custom cake is designed in my signature buttercream style, this isn't the route for character, licensed, or novelty theme cakes (think Barbie, superheroes, sculpted shapes).

If you’re splurging on a fancy cake, it should taste as good as it looks.

I bake with only the best: rich European butters, Nielsen-Massey vanilla, and Callebaut chocolate. You can expect organic fruit when possible, farm-fresh eggs from happy hens, and absolutely zero seed oils.

Because quality matters — not just looks. And trust me, every bite is worth it.

Hi! I’m Chassidy — the one mixing, baking, and buttercream-slinging behind every cake. Takes the Cake is a licensed home bakery in Salem, VA, and everything that leaves my kitchen is made start to finish by me.

I’m not the big-box bakery down the road — I’m the baker who cares if your cake survives a gravel driveway, who’ll sweat the details so you don’t have to, and who believes desserts should taste just as incredible as they look.
